New Brands to Know

I’ve recently been gifted garments that truly stood out to me and I want to share the brands with you. It’s always so much fun to discover new and interesting designs at a variety of price points. Adding in a few new pieces each season (and releasing items that no longer feel like you) is the way to keep your personal style feeling current and modern. If you let too much time pass without doing this, that’s when your closet begins to feel off and you look in there and say, “How can I possibly have all of these clothes, but nothing to wear?”

This female-founded brand lands somewhere between Lilly Pulitzer and J.McLaughlin in my mind: pretty, polished and easy-going all at once. The cotton poplin fabric is light but structured, the prints are whimsical and preppy without being over the top, fabrics are machine-washable and they design kids clothes, too. Great for golf and outdoors, they offer UVF fabric in their cute skort sets, dresses and tops. Above I’ve linked a few that stood out to me. After you look at my choices, check out all the offerings on their site. The pant lengths were great on me (I’m 5’8” and am longer from waist to floor) but some of the pants felt a bit too long on one of my clients. If your legs are shorter, keep this in mind regarding sizes.

Many of you may already know and wear this brand but it feels like a (re)introduction is worthy of this certified woman-owned, 100% women led, B-corp brand that mixes Irish roots with California coastal cool. The fabrics are incredible—lightweight while still structured with great stretch. I feel like this brand is well known for its variety of shirt styles. However, it’s their pants that are working so well for me (and many clients) right now. The Westport pant is a fan favorite—a true mid-rise for those of you who are tired of the high-rise trend, but without any muffin-top whatsoever. Also, the Italian linen wide leg and straight leg are a perfect polished casual pant for spring/summer. Click the image above and you’ll see links to all of these. If you tend to be straight through the waist and hips, then I suggest sizing down in their pants. If you have a smaller waist and juicy booty (like me!) then choose your regular size. The Westport pant definitely stretches as I wear it so sizing down may be the best bet for it.

Kara Chalifoux jewelry

This brand is a new personal favorite of mine because I met Kara at a Tory Burch Women’s Entrepreneurship webinar and our personalities just clicked immediately so we decided to connect off-line. She’s a young jewelry designer who used to work for Tory but has started her own collection of jewelry. She lives and designs in New York City and has been sending me items to offer to clients during my one-on-one sessions. Her designs are fresh and simple and well-priced and have worked on so many of my clients with different style profiles—from 19 year olds to young moms to menopausal mavens! I received garments from this brand very late in winter/early spring and I can tell you the fabric was delicious—warm and structured but so soft that it felt like I was wearing a marshmallow! OGL stands for Ongoing, Gratitude and Love and they are a B-corp but based in China (full disclosure). Their lighter weight knit sets are ideal for travel or everyday activity. These pieces are as comfortable as leggings but much more stylish and pulled together. I feel like the pieces run just a bit small, so if you’re unsure of sizing I’d go up rather than down. I’m a size 10-12 and their Large fits me just right for tops and skirts. In the pants, I would order a Tall Large for added length. I think this line would be ideal for 5’6” and under.

Final thought

Remember when trying anything new-to-you whether it’s a brand or silhouette or fabric choice,  choose something that aligns with your personal style and see how your wardrobe feels instantly updated but still very much a reflection of your identity. Not sure what your personal style is? I wrote about that here and, of course, you can always reach out to do some personalized work with me by clicking here.
